How to use

Before use we recommend you mix the potting mix throughly to blend through the smaller particles evenly. You may want to add a little water to the mix – this will help to redistribute everything.

Watering Tips for African Violets:

Watering from the Top: Watering the soil in and around the leaves and flowers. Using a long spouted watering can is ideal for this. Keep watering until the water drains through the bottom of the pot. If you accidentally get water on the leaves then gently pat dry with a paper towel.

Watering from Below: Place the pot in a shallow container filled with water, and allow the mix to soak up moisture through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot for around 20-30 minutes. Once the surface of the soil appears moist, remove the pot to prevent waterlogging.

Monitor Moisture Levels: Check the moisture level of the potting mix regularly. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, as African Violets prefer consistently moist conditions.

Use Room Temperature Water: When watering your African Violets, use room temperature water to avoid shocking the roots.

Avoid Overwatering: While African Violets appreciate moist soil, overwatering can lead to root rot and other issues. Only water when necessary, and ensure that the pot has proper drainage to allow excess water to escape.

Consider Humidity: African Violets thrive in high humidity environments. To increase humidity around your plants, you can place a humidity tray filled with water and pebbles near them or use a room humidifier.

Fertilise African Violets little and often. We recommend using Flower Focus by Growth Technology.

Storing Unused Potting Mix:

The rich organic nutrients may attract unwanted bugs so keep the bag well sealed in a cool dry area.

Note: Bio Leaf Potting Mix is rich in organic matter and nutrients. Sometimes fungal mycelium threads can appear on the substrate or the bag. You may see fluffy white balls around some particles. This is nothing to worry about and is part of the microbial life going on in the bag. It will not harm your plants.
